What is it with girls and their handbags? In my twenty odd years I have seen the evolution of handbags from simply being an accessory - colour coded and matched to harmonize with the outfit and the shoes (shoes are a completely separate issue altogether) to what the status symbol they are today.
The relationship a woman has with her bag is special and intensely personal. It’s no longer the car you drive or the clothes you wear. Women judge other women by the bags they carry.
Vuitton – rich bitch. Hermes – richer bitch. Monogramed Vuitton – vulgar. Logo-laden Gucci – devoid of personality. Prada – better. Marc jacobs – low-key – i know my labels, girl.
Bags have become one of the key parts of the wardrobe. I think that their popularity is a tiny bit down from a few years ago – this year the emphasis is maybe more on shoes?
I somewhat agree but in terms of the media coverage and visibility given to the so-called “it” bags – shoes really come second in that sense. Look at how aggresively designers gift their bags to every tom, dick – celebrity. I guess simply because “it” bags are bigger ticket items than shoes.
